The Fleeting Fireworks

The distracting crackling of fireworks sneaks its way into a Buddhist monastery making it impossible for a layman monk to concentrate on meditation
In dreams I feel chilly and desolate after an entire life’s twists and turns only goodness knows how many debts of love have been accumulated under my name which could possibly be written into several books
You seem to have a silent wish wishing me to pine for you while you sleep in grave
Year in and year out, I wait in vain

Several layers of the Buddhist pagoda collapsed reminding me of your broken soul
In sadness and pain, ,a lamp flickering in distance I dash passed the dilapidated mountain gate
Please allow me another chance and turn back the clock
I will indulge myself once again in mellow wine listening to you play a tune on your zither

In drizzling rain I revisit the house you once lived the courtyard is now overgrown with grass and shrubs
I heard you remained single throughout your life
An old tree stump sits beside the mottled city gate
Above the stone slab a voice echoes: wait for me

In drizzling rain I revisit the house you once lived the courtyard is now overgrown with grass and shrubs
I heard you never left this forlorn town
A shepherd boy plays his flute in the outskirt of town which can be heard from that deserted village
Our lot has been joined together and taken root: we are together

In youth life is filled with laughter which is an object of envy for many
Too ruthless are the people who write history annals they refuse to record such romantic stories
Like fleeting fireworks, good times are short, lover’s passion doesn’t last long
Yet you ask me if I am still serious about our relationship

After a thousand years love must be deep But who can bear to wait that long?
Yet how can the annals of history not be true
As though you pass between former lives
Following this world, following me, wandering for this life

In drizzling rain I revisit the house you once lived the courtyard is now overgrown with grass and shrubs
I heard you remained single throughout your life
An old tree stump sits beside the mottled city gate
Above the stone slab a voice echoes: wait for me

Destiny that takes hold belong to ours
Destiny that takes hold belong to ours
I listen to the rain in Samgha Temple, longing for eternity

Fireworks Cool So Easily

The sounds of life vanish
With this escape into the temple
That left the world behind.

Dreams grow cold.
After tossing and turning a lifetime,
How many more debts of the heart do I owe?

It’s as if you silently accepted
That you would wait until you withered.

Withering and waiting one cycle of years after another.

The pagoda has caved in
Whose soul has as well?

Pain floods in
At the sight of a broken lantern,
And a collapsed mountain gate.

Allow me to keep waiting
For history to change

For the smell of wine, for you to again play a guzheng melody.

Rain drizzles softly

In my old hometown, the grasses and trees have grown deep.

I have heard
That throughout your life you remained alone.

The mud-splattered city gate
Is entwined by an old tree root.

What echoes off the slabs of rock is, “Keep waiting.”

Rain drizzles softly

In my old hometown, the grasses and trees have grown deep.

I have heard
That you still guard this lonely city

From the city outskirts, the sound of a shepherd’s flute
Lands in that wild village

There fate once planted our destiny

To hear spring herald laughter
Is the envy of so many.

This history offers no warmth –
The writing is all too vicious.

Fireworks cool so easily, people part so soon

And I hear you asking whether or not I’ve stayed true.

In a thousand years, who will still wait for the sentiments of a weary world?

Yet how can we not leave a legacy
When we have the Wei books in Luoyang City?

If you had taken your vows
In another life

You would have walked in red, and walked with me for a lifetime

Rain drizzles softly

In my old hometown, the grasses and trees have grown deep.

I have heard
That throughout your life you remained alone.

The mud-splattered city gate
Is entwined by an old tree root.

What echoes off the slabs of rock is, “Keep waiting.”

Rain drizzles softly

In my old hometown, the grasses and trees have grown deep.

I have heard
That you still guard this lonely city

From the city outskirts, the sound of a shepherd’s flute
Lands in that wild village

There fate once planted our destiny
There fate once planted our destiny
In Garan Temple I listen to the rain, waiting for eternity
