Peach Blossom Mountain[1]

Guan Yunshi

Three thousand years have passed since left the beauty bright;

I long for him as if he were in front of me.

Peach blossoms redden rain and fall on Mountain White;

I know from human world the immortal would flee.

The empty mountain towers by night as by day;

Old trees cry and exhale sad cloud in crimson dyed.

How’s the mountain transformed where immortals would stay?

For miles and miles cloud and mist hang by riverside.

Spring comes to life when fragrance spreads from mountains proud;

His fingers crush the rainbow into powder fine.

How many times has he crooned verse beyond the cloud

When in the sky the Goddess rides her crane divine!

He dwells here after his spirit has traveled up;

His mind is carefree as the running stream flows by.

He madly croons with sword ungirt beside wine cup;

He knows no human world but paradise on high.

Drunk, I look up and call the poet of my dreams;

My mind is pure and I see no stain in four seas.

Where is your soul in the mountain steeped in moonbeams?

Where can I find your face but in the vernal breeze?
