stop (pull out all the stops )竭尽全能，全力以赴
pull out all the stops指全力以赴以获得某物。如：
They pulled out all the stops in order to get the project finished on time.
他们全力以赴，以便按时完成项目。
这一习惯用语的产生与风琴有关。其中的stops指风琴上用以发出大音量的音栓。当把全部音栓拉出来时，风琴发出的声音达到最大音量。
