虞美人

余甲寅岁自春官出守湖州，秋杪，道中荷花无复存者。乙卯岁，自琐闼[1]以病得请奉祠，卜居青墩[2]镇。立秋后三日行，舟之前后如朝霞相映，望之不断也。以长短句记之。
扁舟三日秋塘路，
平度荷花去。
病夫因病得来游，
更值满川微雨洗新秋。
去年长恨拏[3]舟晚，
空见残荷满。
今年何以报君恩，
一路繁花相送到青墩。

[1]琐闼：指宫殿门上镂刻的连琐图。这里代指宫门，因给事中供职处在宫殿中。
[2]青墩：湖州之南的一个小镇。据《一统志》云：“在桐乡县北二十五里，与湖州乌镇只隔一水。”
[3]拏：握持；相持；牵引。

My boat goes along the lotus poolside way.
Ill, I come for an autumn view;
The drizzling rain has washed clear autumn new.
Last year’s regret of coming late would still remain;
I saw but withered blooms in vain.
How should I show my gratitude this year,
When all the way flowers in bloom appear?

“The Beautiful Lady Yu” is a song written by Chen Youyi in the Song Dynasty. By describing what the lyricist saw and felt on his way from Lin’an to Qingdun by boat, the lyricist portrays his optimistic and open-minded self-image in a vague and realistic way.
