Nor do we hurry.
也不可急促行走
When we walk through halls and corridors…
通过大厅与走道时
we practice humility by walking close to the walls.
必须实行谦卑，靠着墙行走

Tomorrow, in the chapter hall…

the Superior General will admit you formally into the congregation.
总会长将正式接纳各位入会
And you will begin your six months?terms as postulants.
你们将开始为期六个月的保守生阶段
The Reverend Mother Emmanuel represents Christ among us.
修女院的艾曼妞院长 将代表我们之中的基♥督♥
And as such she is loved and obeyed by us.

What do you ask, my children?

To be admitted into this congregation.

Dear children, it is not easy to be a nun.
亲爱的孩子，成为修女并不容易
It is not a life of refuge from the world.
修女的生活并非出世隐退
It is a life of sacrifice.
修女的人生是自我牺牲
In a way, it is a life against nature.
也可说是违反自然的生活
It is a never-ending struggle for self-perfection.
是对于自我完美恒久的要求
Some of you will have more trouble than others.
你们当中有些人会有较多的挣扎
Poverty, chastity, and obedience are extremely difficult.
神贫、守贞与服从 是非常难以遵守的规定
Each of us here can assure you of that.
我们每一个修女都敢这样说
The sacrifices that are required of us are bearable…
我们被要求做到的牺牲
only if we make them with love.
只有在以爱为出发点时 方可忍♥受
Just as in the world we can do impossible things…
我们要以挚爱之心 对待这个世界
with a glad heart for a loved one…so it is with us.
才能成就不可能的志业 爱与我们同在
We can endure greater sacrifice…
我们可以忍♥受大牺牲
because the object of our love is our Lord Jesus Christ.

In order to come into closer union with our Lord…

Cloistered life is made up of an infinity of small things.

You must try to live the Holy Rule not day by day…but minute by minute…

in a state of constant alertness against imperfections.
对于有缺失的行为常保持警觉
The perfect nun is one who, for the love of God…
那些为了敬爱天主
is obedient in all things unto death.
至死谨守所有纪律的修女 才是完美的修女
Remember, dear children, you can very easily cheat us, your sisters.
请牢记，亲爱的孩子，你们可以 欺骗我们、欺骗你们的修女同胞
But you can never cheat yourself. Or God.
可是却无法欺骗自己或天主
The postulant will learn strict obedience to the bell…
保守生将学习严格遵守钟声的召唤
which is the voice of God.
钟声即为天主之声
Stopping whatever she is doing instantly…

when it calls to other duty or devotions.

For example, if you drink a glass of water between meals…

But you are still very far from being mature in the religious life.

Maturity is the armor of our missionaries.

And this is not achieved in a day.

Since tomorrow is the day of vesture…

when you receive the habit of a novice…

we must talk today about detachment.

You have already detached yourselves from family and friends.

Now we have the difficult detachment from things and memories.

Tonight, when you go to your cells…you will find parts of your new habit.

We offer our Lord…our liberty, our memory, and our will.

Are you firmly resolved…to despise the honors, riches…

the control of passions, and the acquiring of virtue…
