地球：神奇的一天（2017）

This is zavodovski island in Antarctica,
一百五十多万只的帽带企鹅在这里安家落户
home for 1.5 million chinstrap penguins.
这是一个奇特的地方
It’s an extraordinary place.
岛中心的活火山喷出的岩桨凝固成一片裸♥露♥的岩壁
An outcrop of rock, spewed out by the volcano at its heart.
海浪昼夜不停地拍打着岩壁
The oceans beat against it night and day.
企鹅们遭受到重重的困难
And the penguins are caught in the crossfire.
每天企鹅们都在与海浪奋战
All day, the adult penguins struggle against the waves
往返于家中与它们捕食的海域
as they journey between home and their hunting grounds, offshore.
这是它们无法避免的考验
It’s an ordeal they can’t avoid.
自己的家人完全依靠着它们
Their families depend on them.
没有爸爸妈妈的照顾
Chinstrap penguin chicks are completely helpless,
这些小宝贝们毫无生存的能力
without the support of both mother and father.
每天 小企鹅都需要新鲜的食物
They need fresh food every day.
于是父母要轮流去海里捕鱼
And their parents take turns to fetch it.
这意味着对于众多的父母来说
It means an awful lot of hunting…
需要进行大量的捕食
…for an awful lot of moms and dads.
这只企鹅妈妈已经没有食物喂它的宝宝了
This mother has no food left to feed her chicks.
它们只能期盼着企鹅爸爸
They now need their father to return,
能早日归来
and soon.
下午时分
At mid-afternoon,
清早出海的捕猎者们回来了
the first wave of hunters, who left early this morning, return.
这只企鹅宝宝的爸爸就是其中的一个
Amongst them is the chick’s father.
这天它出海八十多公里去捕鱼，好在它就快要到家了
He’s been fishing 50 miles offshore, but now he’s not far away.
安全下海已经很不容易，要安全地上岸就更加困难了
If getting safely into the water was difficult, getting out is even harder.
它只能用它小小的爪子死死抓住岩石上一切可以抓住的地方
Tiny claws help them to get whatever grip he can on the rough water.
企鹅爸爸现在还要走3公里才能回到母子身边
The father now has a two mile walk to his family.
肚子里装满了食物，这不会影响到它
And a stomach loaded with food, doesn’t help.
这是地球上最大的企鹅栖息地
This is the largest penguin colony on earth.
它每隔一天就要跑一趟
But, as he makes the same journey every other day,
闭着眼睛都不会摔跤
he should be able to do it with his eyes closed.
至少 在大部分时间里
At least, most of the time.
就像上下班高峰，这个岛上会变得有一些拥堵
Like any commute, it can get a little congested.
有时很难记得把孩子安顿在哪里
And sometimes, it can be hard to remember where you parked your kids.

The mother is still waiting, the chicks are now desperate.

In the midst of all this deafening chorus, he can recognise her particular cry.

She is, literally, one in a million.

A head Bob, is the penguin’s way of saying, “welcome home.”
小宝贝们将会有食物吃了
Both chicks will get a meal.

A happy end to the toughest commute on earth.

Mid-afternoon in the rainforests of Ecuador.

The air steams in the heat.

Here, the sun and plants conspire to create their own unique weather.

And is the same practically every day.

This afternoon, that’s going to help one of its smallest

and most beautiful inhabitants in a surprising way.
盘尾蜂鸟的大小跟你的拇指差不多大
The racket-tailed hummingbird is about the size of your thumb.
飞得如此优雅要燃烧很多热量
It takes a lot of energy to look this graceful.
这意味着蜂鸟几乎永远都饿肚子的
That means it’s living in a perpetual state of near starvation.
实际上，它每天都需要采蜜超过一千次
In fact, its metabolism is so fast, it needs to fuel up on nectar,

over a thousand times a day.

It can’t stop feeding for a moment.

A single bee sting, close to the bird’s heart, could be fatal.

Rain is about to intervene.

The heat of the afternoon sun, has built massive thunder clouds.

And when they can no longer hold their burden, they break.
森林上方大雨如注
Above the canopy, the rain is torrential.
但落到层层叠叠里的枝叶下边，就变成了小雨滴
Under the shelter of layers of leaves, the deluge is reduced to drips.
雨滴与蜂鸟的头一样大，可能不会给蜂鸟带来多大乐趣
A raindrop as big as its head, may not be much fun for a hummingbird.

But it’s altogether too much, for a bee.

whitetip sharks are content to cruise gently around the reef alone.
