Too often, we honor swagger

and bluster and the wielders of force.

on the shattered dreams of other human beings.

and only a cleansing of our whole society

can remove this sickness from our souls.

For when you teach a man to hate and to fear his brother,
当你让别人因为自己的肤色、信仰
when you teach that he is a lesser man
或者认同的理念
because of his color or his beliefs
而自觉卑微
or the policies that he pursues…
当你让别人仅仅因为不同己见
…when you teach that those who differ from you
就随意威胁他人的财产
threaten your freedom or your job
或者家人生命的时候
or your home or your family,
你也就已经
then you also learn to confront others,

视同胞为仇人
but as enemies.
不以相互合作为念
To be met not with cooperation, but with conquest.
反以暴♥力♥征服为乐
To be subjugated and to be mastered.
最终 我们学会了将同胞视为异己
We learn, at the last, to look at our brothers as aliens.
分享的是同一个城市的资源 却不是同一个社区的感情
Alien men with whom we share a city, but not a community.

Men bound to us in common dwelling,
却相互敌视
but not in a common effort.
让人难以置信
…is impossible to believe…

We learn to share only a common fear,

only a common desire to retreat from each other.
